The Cuatro Ciénegas Killifish is a small freshwater fish up to five and a half centimeters long. It lives only in springs and lakes of the Cuatro Ciénegas basin in the desert in northern Mexico.
The species differs from related cyprinodonts by adaptation to highly mineralized water of desert springs. It is important as part of the local food web and an indicator of the purity of the unique Cuatro Ciénegas ecosystem.
