Asinara donkey
Calm, friendly, less stubborn than ordinary donkeys, gets along well with other animals, low aggression, curious, adaptive to island isolation
Asinara donkey — dwarf albino breed of donkeys, endemic to the island of Asinara (Sardinia, Italy). Distinguished by very light, dry and harmonious conformation, complete albinism (tyrosinase-negative). Height at withers 800–1050 mm (ideal 900–950 mm), live weight 70000–110000 g, body length 1100–1300 mm, chest girth 1000–1150 mm. Format index (body length / height at withers) ≈ 1.25–1.30. Head constitutes 35–38 % of height at withers. Only acceptable color — complete albinism; any pigmented areas, dark hair, skin or eyes — disqualifying defects. Shorter and finer coat, blue/light eyes, pink skin and hooves compared to the base species Equus africanus asinus.
