Microchirus variegatus, or the variegated sole, is a marine flatfish with an oval body. It lives on the bottom, camouflages well against the ground, and feeds on small animals.
The mottled sea sole differs from related species by its complex dark pattern on the body and prefers depths with soft ground. It helps control the population of small invertebrates in the marine ecosystem.
