Calm, peaceful, highly active swimmer. Distinguished by pronounced curiosity and ability for social interaction with other fish. Less timid than standard koi, often demonstrates exploratory behavior in open water.
Selective long-finned line of ornamental carp based on Cyprinus rubrofuscus. Large elongated fish with a “sail” silhouette. Body length (without tail) 350–750 mm, total length with fins 550–1100 mm, weight 1.2–9 kg (optimally 2.5–6 kg at 450–650 mm). The body is more elongated and torpedo-shaped than in classic koi (height to length ratio 1:3.2–3.7). The head is small (18–22% of body length), slightly pointed. The main difference is significantly elongated, thin and flexible fins (2–3 times longer than ordinary koi), giving a graceful “butterfly” silhouette. There are mirror (Doitsu) and fully scaled lines. Inherits all koi colors with high contrast. Proportions: body length to height ≈ 3.4–3.7:1, pectoral fins 25–32% of total length.
Improvement of aeration and water quality, antibiotic therapy (fluoroquinolones, sulfonamides), salt baths
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
