arctic skate
Amblyraja hyperborea
The Arctic skate, or black-bellied skate, is a large flat fish from the group of skates. It lives on the bottom of the cold deep seas of the Arctic and Atlantic oceans.
The Arctic skate differs from other skates by its completely black belly and its ability to live in very cold water at great depths. It plays an important role in the marine ecosystem by regulating the abundance of benthic animals.
