Geometric tortoise is a small terrestrial tortoise with a shell where dark scutes are separated by bright yellow lines forming a geometric pattern. It lives only in one area of South Africa and belongs to very rare species.
The geometric tortoise differs from other tortoises by a complex geometric pattern on its shell, which serves as camouflage in dry grass. It is important for nature because it disperses plant seeds and indicates the condition of rare shrubland ecosystems in South Africa.
