Sturisomatichthys leightoni is a freshwater armored catfish native to the rivers of Colombia. It has a long narrow body with bony plates and a sucker-shaped mouth for bottom feeding.
Sturisomatichthys leightoni differs from related species especially by its long caudal peduncle and striped pattern. It is important for nature because it controls the amount of algae in rivers and serves as food for larger fish.
Legendary longevity: over 100 years. Galapagos tortoises, Greenland sharks, ocean quahogs celebrate with family once every 4 years
