onion-eye grenadier
Macrourus berglax
The onion-eyed grenadier, or Berglax macrourus, is a deep-sea fish with very large eyes and a long body that tapers sharply towards the tail. It lives in the cold waters of the North Atlantic at great depths.
The onion-eyed grenadier differs from other grenadiers with its particularly large eyes and head shape. It plays an important role in the deep-sea food chain, eating small animals and becoming prey for larger fish.
