Bufo cognatus is a large toad living in the prairies and semi-deserts of the central part of North America. It is active at night and well adapted to arid conditions.
Great Plains toad differs from other toads by light stripes on the back and very loud male calls. It is important for nature as it destroys many pest insects and serves as food for snakes, birds, and mammals.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
