Leora's Stream Salamander is a rare salamander that lives only in cold mountain streams of central Mexico. The species often retains gills and an aquatic lifestyle even after reaching adulthood.
The species is distinguished by permanent neoteny and a very small range in the mountains of Mexico. It is important as a predator in streams and as an indicator of water purity, but is threatened by pollution and habitat destruction.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
