Black cod, or notothenia with small scales, is a marine fish that lives in the very cold waters of the Southern Ocean. It has a dark body and spends its life on the seabed.
The small-scaled notothenia differs from related species by its very small scales and dark, almost black body coloration. It is important for nature as a predator that regulates the population of small animals on the bottom of cold seas.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
