Huacaya alpaca
Calm, friendly, curious, social. Less timid and more sociable than the suri. Gets along well in a herd, shows moderate territoriality.
Huacaya — the most common type of alpaca (85–90 % of the population), a compact, solidly built animal with a pronounced "plush" appearance. It differs from the Suri by its dense, elastic fleece with strong crimp, and a compact "square" body conformation. Height at withers 850–950 mm, body length 1100–1300 mm, live weight of males 55–85 kg, females 50–75 kg. Fleece fiber on the body 80–150 mm. Head wedge-shaped, ears erect and pointed 70–95 mm, eyes large dark brown, neck 280–380 mm, body barrel-shaped with a broad chest, limbs strong and straight, tail 120–180 mm. Fleece dense and thick (35–60 follicles/mm²), with pronounced crimp, without undercoat. 22 basic colors and over 300 shades are allowed (white, beige, brown, black, roan, spotted, etc.), color uniform along the fiber length. Compactness index 1.25–1.35, fleece density at least 35–40 follicles/mm². Not allowed: weak crimp, open fleece, coarse guard hair, incorrect limb conformation, sway back.
