Macrourus whitsoni is a deep-sea fish with a long tapering body and tail. It lives on the bottom of cold seas around Antarctica.
This species differs from related longtails by the shape of its snout and body proportions. It is important for the deep-sea ecosystem of Antarctica as a predator of small animals and prey for large fish and seals.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
