Homaloptera gymnogaster is a small freshwater fish with a strongly flattened body. It lives in fast streams of Southeast Asia and holds onto stones using a mouth sucker.
This species differs from related fish by the absence of scales on the belly and a special structure of the fins. It helps maintain the cleanliness of streams by eating algae.
Scrapes food with a suction-cup mouth from stones.
Legendary longevity: over 100 years. Galapagos tortoises, Greenland sharks, ocean quahogs celebrate with family once every 4 years
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
