Acipenser multiscutatus
Acipenser schrenckii
The Japanese sturgeon is a large fish from the sturgeon family. It inhabits coastal seas of Japan and enters rivers to spawn.
The Japanese sturgeon differs from other sturgeons by having a greater number of bony scutes on its body. It is important as a participant in bottom food chains in seas and rivers, but is now severely affected by overfishing and water pollution.
