yellow-bridled finch
Melanodera xanthogramma
The bridled melanocharis is a small bird about 15 centimeters long. Males have black plumage with a bright yellow stripe around the eyes and on the eyebrows, resembling a bridle, while females are colored in brown and olive tones.
The bridled melanocharis differs from related species by the bright yellow bridle in males and life in open grassy areas. It helps spread plant seeds and serves as an important link in the food chains of its island and mainland habitats.
