Stenogobius hawaiiensis, or oopu naniha, is a small fish from the goby family. It lives only on the Hawaiian Islands in fast freshwater streams and can climb wet rocks and waterfalls.
O'opu naniha differs from other gobies by its ability to climb waterfalls using a sucker on its belly. This fish is important for Hawaii's nature because it transfers nutrients from the ocean to mountain streams and serves as food for local birds and larger fish.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
