lake oku clawed frog
Xenopus longipes
Xenopus longipes is a fully aquatic clawed frog that lives only in the high-mountain Lake Oku in Cameroon. It has sharp claws on its hind legs that help it move along the bottom and catch prey.
It differs from other Xenopus longipes species by its very long toes and narrow distribution in only one lake. It is important for studying tissue regeneration and as an indicator of water purity in high-mountain lakes.
