The Tokara habu is a medium-sized venomous snake from the viper family. It lives only on the Tokara Islands in Japan and uses heat-sensitive pits on its head for hunting.
The Tokara habu differs from other habu species in its smaller body size and specific habitat on small islands. As a predator, it regulates the population of rodents and other small animals. Its venom helps scientists create new medical drugs.
Legendary longevity: over 100 years. Galapagos tortoises, Greenland sharks, ocean quahogs celebrate with family once every 4 years
