Snethlage's pipa is an aquatic frog from South America. It lives on the bottom of rivers and lakes and incubates eggs in skin pockets on its back.
Snethlage's pipa differs from most frogs by its fully aquatic lifestyle and unique offspring development on the female's back without a free-swimming tadpole stage. It helps maintain balance in South American freshwater ecosystems by eating small animals.
Grabs prey with front paws and puts it in the mouth.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
