Morelet's alligator lizard is a tree lizard with a sturdy body and very rough scales. It inhabits the mountain forests of Central America and gives birth to live young.
Morelet's alligator lizard differs from closely related species by its particularly rough and large scales, as well as by being viviparous. It helps maintain balance in forest ecosystems by eating insects and serving as prey for birds and snakes.
