The European storm petrel is a very small seabird the size of a sparrow. It spends almost its entire life flying over the ocean and comes to the shore only to lay an egg and raise a chick.
The European storm petrel differs from other storm petrels in its small size and white patch above the tail. It is important for nature because it transfers nutrients from the sea to islands and serves as food for large predatory birds.
