réunion petrel
Pseudobulweria aterrima
The Mascarene storm petrel is a rare seabird with almost completely black plumage. It lives in the Indian Ocean and comes to Reunion Island only to raise its chicks.
The Mascarene storm petrel differs from other storm petrels in its completely dark coloration without light spots on the wings and tail. It is important as part of the ocean food chain and serves as an indicator of marine environment purity. The species is endangered due to predators on the island.
