The Levantine scraper, or Damascus barbel, is a freshwater fish from the carp family. It lives in rivers of the Middle East and feeds on algae, which it scrapes off rocks.
This species differs from related capoeat by the shape of its mouth and scales. It is important for rivers because it controls algae growth and serves as food for predators.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
