Craugastor occidentalis is a small terrestrial frog from western Mexico. It has direct development: fully formed froglets hatch from the eggs without an aquatic tadpole stage.
Craugastor occidentalis differs from most frogs in that it does not need water for the development of offspring. The species helps the forest ecosystem by eating insects and serving as food for snakes and birds.
