Stevens' toropuku is a small nocturnal gecko that lives only on Stevens Island off the coast of New Zealand. It has large eyes, sticky toes, and the ability to drop its tail when in danger.
Stevens' toropuku differs from related species with its unique scale pattern and the fact that it inhabits only one tiny island. It is important for nature as part of New Zealand's unique fauna and helps maintain balance in the local ecosystem.
Legendary longevity: over 100 years. Galapagos tortoises, Greenland sharks, ocean quahogs celebrate with family once every 4 years
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.

Theoretical maximum lifespan estimated from the Dynamic Energy Budget (DEB) mathematical model. This value reflects a biological potential derived from metabolic parameters, not from direct observation — real recorded lifespans are often significantly shorter.
