leopard whipray
Himantura leoparda
The leopard whipray is a marine ray with a flat rhomboid body and a very long thin tail. The body is covered with numerous dark spots, and there is a venomous spine on the tail for defense.
The leopard whipray differs from other rays with its bright leopard spots and exceptionally long tail. It regulates the population of bottom invertebrates and serves as an important link in the food chain of tropical seas.
