The Great Shearwater is a large seabird with a wingspan of more than a meter. It spends almost its entire life flying over the ocean and makes very long migrations across the Atlantic every year.
The Great Shearwater differs from related species by its larger size and a distinctive dark spot on its white belly. It is important for nature because it transfers nutrients from the ocean to islands and serves as an indicator of marine ecosystem health.
