Charadrius mongolus
The Mongolian sandpiper is a small migratory bird of the sandpiper family. It nests in the steppes and mountains of Central Asia, and in winter flies to sandy and muddy shores of seas in Southeast Asia and Australia.
The Mongolian sandpiper differs from other sandpipers by its shorter bill and a special pattern on its head during the breeding season. It plays an important role in coastal ecosystems by eating invertebrates and serving as food for predators.
