Nagpuri — a medium-heavy river-type breed of Indian buffalo with a sturdy, relatively light and dry conformation. Height at withers: females 1240–1380 mm, males 1300–1480 mm. Body length 1600–1850 mm. Stretch index ≈ 1.25–1.35. Head relatively light, elongated, dry, with a broad, slightly convex forehead. Horns very long, flat, sabre-curved backward and upward, then slightly forward; length along the outer curve in females 550–850 mm, in males 950–1100 mm; distance between bases ≥ 250 mm. Ears medium (180–240 mm), set horizontally or slightly drooping. Eyes large, protruding. Skin thin, close-fitting, coal-black. Coat short, smooth, glossy. Small white markings on the forehead, white stockings on the hind legs, white edging along the lower edge of the tail, light-gray or white spots on the udder, lower abdomen and inner thighs are allowed.
