hewitt s ghost frog
Heleophryne hewitti
Hewitt's frog is a rare amphibian that lives only in a few mountainous regions of South Africa. It inhabits cold fast streams among rocks and has special suction cups to avoid being swept away by the current.
Hewitt's frog differs from other frogs with strong suction cups on tadpoles, which allow it to live in very fast mountain streams. It is important for nature as an indicator of clean water and as part of South Africa's rare ecosystem.
