three-toed snake-tooth skink
Coeranoscincus reticulatus
The three-toed snake-toothed skink is a rare lizard with a long snake-like body and very short legs. It has three toes on its hind legs. It lives in tropical forests of northeastern Australia and spends almost all its time in the soil.
The three-toed snake-toothed skink differs from other skinks with its greatly reduced limbs and special teeth for soft prey. It controls the population of soil invertebrates and serves as an important part of the forest ecosystem.
