Faroese Goose
Calm, vigilant, territorial. Bonds well with humans and the place of keeping. Less timid than many other goose breeds. Strong instinct to protect territory and offspring. Vocal, uses voice to warn of danger.
Local breed of gray goose (Anser anser), endemic to the Faroe Islands. Distinguished by significantly smaller size (25–35% lighter than the wild gray goose), compact, stocky, “sturdy” body conformation, short and thick neck, small rounded head, deep wide chest, and pronounced ability to accumulate subcutaneous fat. Body length 750–920 mm, wingspan 1480–1680 mm. Main color gray with scaly pattern on the back and shoulders; belly and undertail light (white or off-white). Classic gray, silvery-gray, and bluish-gray variants are allowed. Proportions: body length to neck length 2.4–2.6:1, body depth ≈ neck length, head ≈ 1/7–1/8 of total length. Retains the ability to fly.
