Puffinus newelli
Newell's Shearwater is a small seabird that lives in the tropical waters of the Pacific Ocean near the Hawaiian Islands. It spends almost its entire life in the air over the sea and comes to land only to raise its chicks in burrows.
Newell's Petrel differs from other petrels by its small size, dark upperparts and white underparts. It is important for nature as a carrier of nutrients from the ocean to the islands and as part of the marine food chain.
