The Rainbow Snipe is a bird with a long beak that lives in swamps and shallow waters. In this species, females are more brightly colored and larger than males, and males incubate the eggs and raise the chicks.
The Rainbow Snipe differs from other sandpipers in that the roles of male and female are completely reversed. The bird is important for nature because it eats many insects and serves as an indicator of clean and wet habitats.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
