collared carpetshark
Parascyllium collare
The collared carpetshark is a small bottom-dwelling shark up to 95 centimeters long. It lives along the southern coast of Australia and is easily recognized by a broad dark band around the neck, resembling a collar.
Collared carpet shark differs from other carpet sharks with a clear light collar behind the head and transverse stripes. It helps maintain balance in benthic communities by eating small animals and serves as food for larger marine predators.
