The Cape kurper, or Sandelia capensis, is a freshwater fish from South Africa. It lives in rivers and streams of the Cape region and can breathe air when there is little oxygen in the water.
The Cape kurper differs from related fish in that it tolerates low-oxygen water well thanks to a special respiratory organ. It is important for nature because it regulates the population of small animals in rivers and serves as food for larger predators.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
