The South American sea lion is a large marine mammal from the family of eared seals. Males are noticeably larger than females, have a mane on the neck, and live along the coasts of South America.
The South American sea lion differs from other sea lions by the large mane of males and the shape of the muzzle. As a predator, it regulates the population of fish and cephalopods in coastal waters and serves as food for orcas and large sharks.
