Bubalus bubalis 'Buffalypso'
Calm, obedient, less aggressive and fearful than the wild water buffalo. High sociality within the herd, good trainability, pronounced working instinct. Adapts well to working with humans.
Buffalypso — a breeding line of the domesticated Asian buffalo, bred in Trinidad and Tobago. Large, massive, but relatively dry and athletic buffalo. Live weight of males 650–950 kg, females 450–680 kg. Height at withers: males 1300–1480 mm, females 1180–1350 mm. Body length 2100–2600 mm. Head relatively small, dry, with pronounced sexual dimorphism. Ears of medium length (180–240 mm), horizontally set. Eyes large, dark brown. Nasal mirror and nostrils black. Neck powerful with dewlap (up to 350–450 mm in bulls). Body deep and wide, chest girth 2200–2600 mm. Back straight or slightly raised. Limbs strong, relatively short, widely set. Hooves wide, black. Tail 800–1100 mm with a tassel. Coat very short, smooth, tightly fitting (slick coat). Skin thick, dark gray or slate black. Preferred colors: golden-red, copper-red, light brown with golden sheen, dark red, light fawn. Horns short (300–550 mm), thick at the base, directed backward and slightly upward. Stretch index 1.75–1.85. Differs from parental species by more compact build, predominance of red colors, short smooth coat and better heat resistance.
