round ray
Rajella fyllae
The Rayella fulle, or round skate, is a cartilaginous fish with a flat round body. It lives on the sea floor in cold waters of the northern Atlantic and feeds on bottom-dwelling animals.
The round ray differs from other rays by a more rounded disc shape and smooth skin without large spines. It is important for marine nature because it controls the population of bottom-dwelling animals and serves as food for large fish and seals.
captures prey with its mouth on the underside of the body
