The Near Eastern salamander is a large amphibian with a black body and bright yellow spots. It lives in the mountains of the Middle East, hunts at night, and defends itself with a poisonous skin secretion.
The Near Eastern salamander differs from the fire salamander by larger spots and adaptation to dry summers. It regulates insect populations and serves as an indicator of the purity of mountain water bodies.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
