Cryptobranchus alleganiensis

The Allegheny hellbender is a large aquatic salamander up to 74 centimeters long. It lives only in clean fast rivers and streams in eastern North America and breathes mainly through its skin.
The Allegheny hellbender differs from other salamanders in its enormous size, very folded skin, and completely aquatic lifestyle. It is important as a predator that controls the population of crayfish and as an indicator of clean river water.
