Iniistius melanopus is a marine fish from the wrasse family. It has a body strongly compressed from the sides, which allows it to quickly bury itself in the sand at the bottom of tropical seas.
Iniistius melanopus differs from closely related species by a large black spot on the dorsal fin and yellow markings. The fish is important for the marine ecosystem because it controls the population of small invertebrates and serves as prey for larger predators.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
