Bathytroctes microlepis
Bathytroctes microlepis, or the small-scaled smoothhead, is a deep-sea fish from the Alepocephalidae family. It lives in the cold and dark waters of the ocean at great depths.
Bathytroctes microlepis differs from other smoothheads by having very small scales all over its body. This fish is important for the deep-sea food chain: it eats small animals and itself becomes food for large predators.
