sabertooth blenny
Plagiotremus azaleus
The saber-toothed blenny is a small marine fish up to 12 centimeters long. It has sharp long fangs in the lower jaw, with which it bites other fish to feed on their scales and mucus.
The saber-toothed blenny differs from other blennies with its very long fangs and special feeding method. It helps control the population of some reef fish and serves as food for larger predators.
Quickly swims up to a large fish and bites off a piece of skin or scales with sharp fangs.
