The Eastern Shovelnose Ray is a marine cartilaginous fish with a long flat rostrum shaped like a shovel. It lives on the bottom of coastal waters off the east coast of Australia and feeds on small animals.
The eastern shovelnose ray differs from predatory rays by the absence of a venomous spine and from sharks by its strongly flattened body. It is important for nature because it regulates the population of bottom invertebrates and serves as food for large marine predators.
Immature form that undergoes metamorphosis before adulthood.
