The California sea lion is a large marine mammal from the family of eared seals. It lives along the western coasts of North America, swims excellently, and often comes ashore to rest and give birth to pups.
The California sea lion differs from true seals by having external ear flaps and the ability to walk on its flippers. It is important for nature as a fish hunter and part of the ocean's food chain.
