sea lamprey
Petromyzon marinus
The sea lamprey is an ancient fish without jaws. It lives in the seas, attaches to other fish, and feeds on their blood, ascending rivers for reproduction.
The sea lamprey differs from other fish by the absence of jaws and the presence of a sucker with teeth. It regulates fish populations in the oceans but can cause significant harm in areas where it has become an invasive species.
