Lively, energetic, very mobile and flying. High attachment to home (homing), excellent orientation. Calm in the loft, but active in flight. Low aggression towards conspecifics.
Antwerp Smerle — a medium-sized, strong, compact and muscular breed of domestic pigeons of the hawk (predatory) type. Weight 380–520 g, body length 280–340 mm, wingspan 580–660 mm. Characterized by a broad chest, powerful body, short powerful neck (65–75 mm), relatively small rounded-cubic head (45–52 mm), posture “backward” with the head thrown back. Beak 18–23 mm, eyes large with pearly-white or light-silver iris. Tail short (80–95 mm) with 12–14 feathers. Plumage dense, stiff, glossy. The main distinguishing feature is the “smerle” marbled hawk pattern on the head, neck and chest against a dark glossy body. Acceptable colors: black, blue, silver, red, yellow smerle. Proportions: body length to neck 4.5:1, head ~1/6 of total length, chest width ≥ body height.
