Calm, balanced, moderately active. Good at navigating terrain, has a pronounced homing instinct. Less timid compared to many sporting breeds, easily adapts to humans and housing conditions.
Nezhin pigeon (Metambasia) — a medium-sized postal-decorative breed. Weight 360–480 g, body length 340–380 mm, wingspan 680–760 mm. Build strong, compact, muscular, of "combat" type. Head of medium size (55–62 mm), rounded-oval, slightly elongated, with a broad convex forehead. Eyes large (iris diameter 9–11 mm), dark brown to black, with white or light gray eyelids. Beak 18–22 mm, straight, light or dark horn-colored. Neck 85–105 mm with a characteristic "metambasian" backward curve and the ability to strongly inflate into a "collar". Body broad, deep, cylindrical; back broad, slightly sloping; chest rounded, protruding. Wings 240–265 mm, tightly pressed, tips on the tail. Legs short (tarsus 28–34 mm), bare, red or reddish-brown. Tail 110–130 mm, broad, of 12–14 feathers, horizontal. Plumage dense, smooth, glossy. Skin thin, white or bluish. Main color — pure black with intense green metallic sheen; black with purple, dark blue with green, black-piebald are allowed. Differs from Columba livia by compact build, special neck shape, absence of white mirror on wings and rump, absence of skin growths on the head. Proportions: body length to wing 1.45–1.55:1, head ~1/6 of body length.
